What is the American Corner?

In essence, an American Corner is a friendly, accessible space, open to the public, which provides current and reliable information about the United States through bilingual book and magazine collections, CD-ROMs, films and documentaries, poster exhibitions, and guides as to the best Internet sites for research on the United States.   At the same time, the Corner has a full programming agenda and organizes presentations, workshops, and dialogue with U.S. experts in areas that include journalism, grant writing, corporate ethics, foreign relations, literature, English, architecture, and a wide array of other topics.   It is also a meeting place for US alumni, conversation and study groups, and great place to hang out away an hour or two!

When did the American Corner open?

The America Corner was inaugurated on April 6th, 2006.  U.S. ambassador Craig Kelley and then Universidad de Tarapacá dean, Dr. Emilio Rodriguez, gave opening remarks before cutting the ribbon, officially opening the American Corner to the university, as well as the public.  This is the 3rd American Corner in Chile.  Plans are in place to open two more which will make a total of 5 American Corners in Chile.
